At Rexel, we have developed our range of Newlec metallic fixings and supports, to help our customers guarantee compliance with the new regulations.
The new regulation 521.10.202 requires cables to be adequately supported against their premature collapse in the event of a fire, throughout the installation, not just in escape routes. In the previous amendment, it was only a requirement for metallic cable support in emergency escape routes; something that was difficult to determine.
The latest amendments remove this confusion and states: wiring systems shall be supported such that they will not be liable to premature collapse in the event of a fire; using suitably spaced steel or copper clips, saddles or ties. The ultimate goal of this change is to avoid causing hazards for anyone exiting or entering the building, in the event of a fire.
The Newlec range includes metallic fixing products that have been around for years - stainless steel cable ties and mounts, all around band etc - but more importantly a newly developed, innovative range of fire-rated fixings and supports.
As well as helping customers comply with the new regulations, creating a versatile and innovative product was key in the development of the new range. An example of this is the new flat cable clips, which can be shaped to meet a variety of requirements.
The new flat cable clips are available in three sizes, and are supplied flat, meaning that they are space efficient and pocket friendly, easier to handle saving installation time, easy to fold to consider space and cable volume, and perfect for shot fired fixings
Other products in the range include a 1 piece metallic saddle. This product differs from traditional saddles, the conduit (or cable) is held by the wrap-design, which has an end tab that simply fits through the opposing notch to enable a secure lock, eliminating the need for wide bases.
There is also an innovative spring clip for use in mini trunking.
To assist with compliance when installing our new fire rated products, we have also added a fire rated fixing to the range. With a 40mm shaft and close threads, combining to provide exceptional performance, Newlec Fire Rated Fixings are ideal for securing Newlec fire-rated ranges and other electrical installation equipment in popular substrates - including masonry, plasterboard / breeze-block, concrete, brickwork and wood. These fixings have been extensively tested, and are certified to hold loads up to 970°C for 2 hours, after also withstanding stress vibrations and water sprays. In fire tests, the screw threads remain securely embedded with no need for anchors or plastic wall plugs (which typically melt at 160°C).
All the products in the Newlec fire rated range have been fire tested and certified above and beyond what is typically expected of a metallic fixing, and will comfortably operate at 970 degrees C for two hours; to compare, plastic type fixings will typically melt at approximately 150 degrees C. Newlec fire rated products also withstand required levels of shock, vibration and water spray. Copies of reports are available on request.
